Exporting an Oracle Report to Excel can look simple until the PDF output is correct but the spreadsheet is missing headings, starts from the second row, repeats data, or places values in unexpected cells. The useful part is usually understanding when each report trigger executes and what data is available at that point.
Start with the report flow
Before changing the Excel code, confirm that the report itself returns the correct records. A formatting problem and a query problem can look very similar after export, so separating them saves a lot of time.
- Verify the report query and the number of returned rows.
- Confirm which Format Trigger writes the headings.
- Check whether page-level triggers are skipping or repeating the first record.
- Test the exported file after every small change.
Keep each cell responsibility clear
When using an Excel export package, keep the heading cells separate from the repeating detail cells. It becomes much easier to trace a missing column when every column number has one clear meaning.
